Abstract
Nietzsche’s position on the soul-body relationship is not a return to the metaphysics of the soul, nor a philosophy that can be categorized as reductive materialism. What Nietzsche sees in materialism is a tool, not to reduce the concept of “spirit”, but to expand it, without falling into metaphysical conclusions. The contradictions attributed to Nietzsche by Stanley Rosen (1999) and Manfred Kerkhoff (1967), as well as the difficulties about materialism in general presented by Heiner Hastedt (1988), dissipate when the Röcken philosopher’s affirmations about the soul-body relationship are understood as the result of a transvaluation in the employment of the mechanisms of the “spiritual colonization”, now put to the service of its liberation as well as its freedom, that is, its decolonization. Nietzsche’s philosophy could be thought of as a tool to overcome the metaphysical colonization of the psychophysical capacities of the human being.
