Abstract

This paper examines the relationship between the theoretical and the pre-theoretical in phenomenology starting from the idea of the “originary science” or “science of origins” in the work of Heidegger and Husserl. It is argued that, although the phenomenology of the young Heidegger focuses on the pre-theoretical, his concept has deep roots in Husserl’s transcendental phenomenology. Through analysis of key texts and posthumously published lessons, it highlights how Heidegger adapted and expanded Husserlian ideas to address phenomenological concreteness. While there is a structural parallel between the two ideas of originary science (Husserl-Heidegger), in the end, they will lead to different results. Furthermore, the influence of Marburgian Neokantianism in the formation of these concepts and the need to return to the original science, according to a Platonic-Aristotelian perspective, to understand the true meaning of phenomenology is discussed.
