Abstract

This article presents the first stage of Martin Heidegger's Erschütterung der Logik during the winter semester course at the University of Freiburg in 1933/34, which consists in the commotion of the grammatical representation of language. It is analyzed how this Heideggerian project leads to the consideration of silence as the origin and ground of language, thus overcoming previous reflections on language within the framework of fundamental ontology and enabling the formulation of the question of the essence of language. Additionally, and apart from this general objective, some connections with the “On the Essence of Truth” conferences elaborated throughout the 1930s are briefly explored, suggesting that silence could also account for the essence of truth.
